Feature Development: EHR Integration

Integrated an electronic health record (EHR) within a novel study implementation software to collect patient data within a clinical research project.

I spearheaded an integration with an electronic health record (EHR) within a novel study implementation software to collect patient data within a clinical research project.

To achieve this, we initially worked to gauge patient interest in sharing such data prior to developing a full scale integration. I then collaborated closely with product and engineering teams, to integrate the connection of the Epic EHR system within a novel study platform. This involved understanding different data attributes required to access accurate information from participants' EHRs for study purposes utilizing FHIR standards, ensuring minimal burden on participants while maximizing data relevance.

As part of our strategy to increase participant engagement, we prioritized clear consent processes regarding data usage. Our approach included clearly outlining consent terms with comprehensive information about how participant data would be utilized within the study. Additionally, we focused on using meaningful participant-facing language in all communication and outreach points. This approach aimed to create a welcoming environment and encourage active participation from engaged users. By combining these efforts, we not only enhanced participant engagement but also ensured ethical and transparent practices in utilizing participant health information for research purposes.
